How to fight spider mites ? How to get rid of them ?

How to deal with spider mites, whiteflies, aphids or mealybugs in the grow room?Dealing with spider mites

Spider mites are a common garden pest. They look similar to small ticks, but are actually arachnids, which means they are related to spiders. Like their cousins, spider mites spin webs around plant stems. Those webs are a good indicator your plant is being attacked by spider mites and not some other pest, such as the “false spider mite”, tenuipalpidae. Spider mites cause the leaves to become yellow, transitioning into brown. Generally, it is easier to prevent than to counteract, but in the case of spider mites it might be very tricky. They are very small, which makes them extremely difficult to notice before their population explodes, at which point they have probably already started attacking your plant. If your plant becomes infested with spider mites, you should first spray it with either pure water or water mixed with hydrogen peroxide, dish soap or both, and then wipe down. If that doesn’t work, mix water with some cayenne pepper. Using diluted isopropyl alcohol can also work. Spraying the plant with a strong stream of water can knock the mites off the leaves, but be careful not to damage them. Neem oil can also be used to fight spider mites, but it works better as a deterrent. Just spray it onto the plant or drench the soil.Spider mites feel best in dry conditions, so another good idea would be to keep your grow room humid, be it by using a humidifier. A cheap alternative to that would be putting a container of water in your tent. The water should start to evaporate, increasing the humidity. It is tricky however to choose the appropriate amount of water, so it might take some experimenting to get right.

Whiteflies , aphids and mealybugs.

Whiteflies, aphids and mealybugs are all insects, which suck the sap out of leaves, producing a layer of sticky honeydew. Whiteflies and mealybugs are easily recognizable because of their white color. They also leave a characteristic white residue, similar to cotton. Aphids can be a few colors, mainly brown, green and red. Their more muted colors make them harder to detect. While feeding, all of those insects release toxins into the plant, leading to general weakness and metabolic problems. All of the methods used for spider mites apply to whiteflies, aphids and mealybugs. Aside from that there are more dedicated methods. For whiteflies you can place yellow post-it notes covered in petroleum jelly and soap near the plant. To whiteflies the color yellow looks like foliage – they become attracted to it and get stuck. Aphids can be effectively repelled by companion planting catnip. Mealybug infestation can be prevented by avoiding using nitrogen-rich fertilizers, as the element causes them to reproduce faster.W

What if nothing has worked?
